Factory Relocation Storage Guide
Factory relocation storage holds machinery while you move between buildings. If equipment must leave the old factory before the new site is ready, plan where it will wait, how it will be unloaded and which machines must be collected first.
Plan these three moving dates
- Leaving the old factory: When must each machine be out of your current building?
- Arriving at the warehouse: When can the storage team receive and unload each delivery?
- Moving to the new factory: When will the new site be ready, and which machines must arrive first?

Confirm the dates for each machine
Write down the last date the equipment can stay at the old site, the planned warehouse arrival and the likely collection date. Keep estimated dates clearly marked.
If the new site is waiting for building work or installation arrangements, explain that during the storage enquiry. Ask how to extend storage if the project runs late.
Example: an eight-machine factory move
A business needs to remove eight machines before its new factory is ready. The storage plan should cover all eight arrivals, the expected waiting period and the order in which the machines will leave. This is a planning example, not a quote or capacity promise.

Make one equipment list for the whole move
Give each machine an ID and use the same ID on photographs, delivery paperwork and the storage list. Label loose parts so they can be matched to the right machine.
- Machine ID, description and make/model.
- Overall length, width and height as it will arrive.
- Verified weight and handling information.
- Loose parts, tooling, guards and separate crates.
- Arrival date and planned collection group.

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for preparing equipment for transport and storage. Agree who will prepare it; the warehouse should not have to guess what work has been completed.
Decide which machines leave storage first
Your installation order should guide the collection plan. Tell the warehouse which machines are needed first and which can wait.
If several deliveries arrive together but leave on different dates, make that clear before the goods are placed. Ask how partial collections will be arranged and what notice is required.
Before sending a collection vehicle, confirm that the receiving site and the people handling installation are ready for that group of equipment.
Agree who handles each part of the move
On a phone, swipe the table sideways to see every column.
| Task | Confirm before the move |
|---|---|
| Equipment preparation | Who checks the manufacturer’s instructions and prepares the machine? |
| Transport | Who books vehicles and coordinates arrival times? |
| Warehouse unloading | Who reviews the load and agrees the handling plan? |
| Storage changes | Who approves extra deliveries, visits and revised dates? |
| Collection | Who authorizes release and confirms the next destination is ready? |
Keep one current contact list. If your dates change, update the warehouse, transport provider and receiving team so they are working from the same plan.

Common questions about factory move storage
Can machinery stay in storage while a factory opening is delayed?
Discuss the expected period and the possibility of a delay when requesting a quote. Extensions depend on the agreed terms and availability.
Can machines be collected on different dates?
Include the proposed collection groups and dates in your enquiry. Partial collections and notice requirements must be agreed with the warehouse.
What does the warehouse need before a machine arrives?
Provide the machine list, dimensions, verified weights, photographs, handling information and arrival plan. Confirm acceptance and unloading arrangements before dispatch.
